It just over a week thousands of runners will be taking part in the London Marathon. Bristol 10k Training Tips

With the Bristol 10k just over 2 months away I thought it would be timely to put together 3 simple training tips to help runners of every ability.

The Bristol 10k is one of the biggest events of its kind in the UK with over 11,000 runners taking part. For many this will be their first major running event and possibly a stepping stone prior to tackling the Bristol half marathon in September. Whilst there are plenty of guides you can read on how to train for a 10k many don’t place much emphasis, if any, on making sure you are strong enough to deal with what is in reality a very demanding, high impact sport. If you’ve read my post on the Secrets of Mo Farah’s Success you’ll know runners have to be strong enough to deal with forces of around 3 times bodyweight each time the foot strikes the ground. Clearly many aren’t, a review published in the Sports Medicine journal found that for the average recreational runner the yearly incidence of injury was between 37% and 56% and about half to two thirds of these injuries are overuse injuries.
